Principal

Bob Photo - Principal

Robert (Bob) Carman is well known internationally within all four of his major professional careers spanning more than 40 years, first as a research physicist, second as a military equipment design and development specialist, third as an industrial system-development program manager, and finally as a business consultant to major global corporations. Bob brings the results of these experiences, plus his 2 year time spent as a CEO for a small start up company, to bear on helping companies to realize their true potential.

Bob has led many organizations as either the overall leader or as a major part of an overall business. Bob was CEO of KDC Technology, a microwave systems startup, used to assess water content in numerous products. As a program manager, Bob led many programs in laser systems development, neutral particle beam development, and military systems development within MIT Lincoln Laboratory, NASA Electronics Research Center, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), and Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). Within Laser Fusion development, Bob led the Shiva Laser development program for its first two years (LLNL) and gained global recognition in this capacity. Bob was involved in laser target design, fusion experimentation, and the CO2 laser development at LANL. Later within industry, Bob led many more systems and business/technical processes development programs involving rocket component development, rocket engine development, rocket booster development, space satellite development, and airplane component systems development within Rockwell Aerospace and Boeing.

Many of the process development program Bob led involved leading global systems developers and even competitor corporations. Specialties developed during this period were the sharing of precompetitive business and technical processes and radical cost reduction methodologies (within design, systems development, recurring and non-recurring production and logistics support) that led to international recognition. Bob was a pioneer in the development of virtual team collaboration and many concepts of a virtual corporation, which also led to international recognition. Bob has authored or co-authored over 75 referred technical publications, and contributed to several books, has lectured in over 10 foreign countries; and has taught in several universities. He has authored or co-authored a few dozen business process and practice articles, IT articles, and was the subject of an article in the Harvard Business Review (“Can Absence Make a Team Grow Stronger,” Ann Majchrzak et al, Harvard Business Review, May 2004, pgs. 131-137).

Bob also has numerous patents in both technical and business arenas, several copyrights and the recipient of numerous awards.

Bob holds a Bachelors of Arts in Physics from Adelphi University and a PhD in Physics from Harvard University. Also has a Certificate in Program Management from West Coast University.
